Donate via IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
-
STEP 1
Make sure you are aware of the IRS rules governing Required Minimal Distributions (RMDs) and QCDs, including whether your type of IRA qualifies.
See our FAQ, “Can I donate to Focus for Democracy project c3 (or a recommended organization) from my IRA to reduce my taxes and meet minimum distribution requirements?” for more information.
We recommend consulting a tax or investment professional.

STEP 2
Notify your IRA custodian of your intentions and the amount of your donation so their firm can distribute the funds on your behalf.
Please note: A key rule about QCDs is that the distributions must be made directly from the IRA to the tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, not to you. This means that the check or wire transfer must be made out to Working America Education Fund. If it is made out to you, it is counted as a taxable distribution.

STEP 3
Depending on the distribution method (options vary by institution), provide your IRA custodian with the appropriate instructions:
Please note that Working America Education Fund’s EIN is 20-2035052 and their address is:
